The further the edits go on CCB 1, the more I really understand how much someone can really mishandle a situation. Micky makes a mess of things and has to call in help.
The novel is in Krystal’s hands, by the way!
“Micky?”
“This real, or did you want to meet for wings?”
“Real as shit. Can’t report it to my people, but the Department will want to know about this.”
“I’m in the office. Let me go secure and encrypted.”
“Do it.”
Seconds passed. Micky noted the changes in the communications indicators as Krystal ran the processes to make sure their conversation was as unbreakable as possible to outsiders.
“I’m ready. What have you got?”
“Look up a free lancer that goes by Wolf.”
“Shit. The Department keeps an alert on him. In house. What happened?”
“He kidnapped Burn. Killed two people who were watching her when he did it. I need to find him and Burn.”
“Is this government business?”
“So far as I know, it’s personal, not Ranger Department. I only know the second because I was involved when Wolf became a Department issue.”
“Give me a minute. I need to get this up the flag pole. Are you claiming control on the situation?”
“I’ll be involved. I’m going to get Burn out of his hands.”
“Alright. This a good contact?”
“Yeah, it’ll work.”
“I’ll call you back. The Department appears to take this guy seriously.”
“I’ve got video to transfer.”
“Send it, Micky. Location data, too, if you have it.”
“Wrapped and sending. Thanks, Krystal. We need to rush this. Bad Karma will get wired if she gets back from whatever she’s doing and finds out Burn’s not safe.”
“There’s more to this story. And where is Karma?”
“I don’t know. I was supposed to keep Burn safe until Karma got back.”
“Karma’s going to kill you.”
“If Wolf doesn’t first.”
“I’ll keep that in mind. Glad I was doing office work.”
“Yeah, this would be a pain if you were out on an operation.”
“Call you soon, Micky. Stay safe and don’t do anything stupid.”
“My quota for stupid is full. Losing Burn took care of that.”
